About FM Doctor

FM Doctor is a practitioner-led AI readiness and governance advisory for regulated operational and leadership teams. The focus is decision-quality, not AI theatre.

What FM Doctor is

A bounded advisory practice

Clarity first: what’s actually happening, what constraints are real, and what a sensible next step looks like.

Method in brief: FM Doctor’s method is built on the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, with reference to the NIST Generative AI Profile where relevant. It is interpreted for UK regulated environments using the UK’s cross-sector AI regulatory principles and ICO guidance, and informed by international standards including ISO/IEC 42001, ISO/IEC 23894, and the OECD trustworthy AI principles, taking account of emerging regulatory regimes such as the EU AI Act where relevant.

FM Doctor is advice-only and does not certify organisations. For mature organisations, support can include a roadmap towards management system controls aligned to those standards; implementation and any certification are separate.

The kind of problem I help clarify

Use often arrives as behaviour before it arrives as strategy

In many regulated environments, the challenge is not whether AI exists. It already does. The real issue is that use often arrives as behaviour before it arrives as strategy. People start drafting, summarising, or experimenting under pressure, while leadership is left with unclear boundaries, uneven practice, and no simple way to judge what is safe, useful, or defensible.

That is the gap FM Doctor is built to help with: turning early AI ambiguity into a clearer picture of risk, ownership, and practical next steps.

Who’s behind it

Craig Bromyard, founder of FM Doctor

FM Doctor is led by Craig Bromyard. I work in NHS operational environments where governance, audit, and risk are everyday constraints. I’ve spent 10+ years across healthcare and commercial settings — including mental health and private acute hospital environments — supporting contract mobilisation, performance improvement, and reducing admin through better processes and data.

My academic background includes an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and a BA (Hons) in Film and Moving Image Production. PPE helped me understand how organisations work at a systems level — how incentives, regulation, institutions, and competing priorities shape what’s realistic. My filmmaking background adds a practical skillset: turning unclear inputs into a clear plan, communicating complex ideas simply, and producing usable outputs under real constraints.

A lot of teams are being handed “AI” and asked to find value without clarity on the risks, guardrails, or what “good” looks like. FM Doctor translates the tech into the reality of regulated operations — helping teams take small, safe steps towards a more data-enabled way of working, with decisions leaders can stand behind.
